About the author

A legacy of excellence in Indian psychology

Prof. Giridhar Prasad Thakur was a distinguished psychologist, visionary academician, and esteemed leader in Indian higher education. Born in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, his remarkable journey began as a Reader in Psychology at Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith (MGKV), Varanasi, in 1979.

Over five decades of impactful service, Prof. Thakur held key roles — Professor & Head of Psychology, Dean of the Faculties of Social Sciences and Science & Technology, Registrar, Finance Officer, Proctor, and Director of the Career Planning and Counselling Centre. He served as President of the Indian Academy of Applied Psychology (1999–2004) and the Indian School Psychology Association (2009–2014), contributing immensely to the growth of psychological sciences in India.

Recognised internationally, he collaborated with the University of Pennsylvania, University of California, Scuola dello Sport (Rome), and the Institute of Psychiatry (London). His honours include the IAAP Lifetime Achievement Award (2007), Best Psychologist Award (2001), and fellowships from the World Association of Social Psychiatry and the American Psychological Association.

Remembered for humility, scholarship, and unwavering commitment to the field, Prof. Thakur left behind a legacy that continues to inspire generations of psychologists and educators worldwide.
